Hi, my name is KP Friess, also known as somesmalltoken. I am a queer, nonbinary, born and raised Detroit artist (and legal worker by day), with a focus on altoid miniature dioramas and pop-up papercraft.
Although I have always been a creative hobbyist and attended a tuition-free fine and performing arts high school for 3D art and creative writing, it wasn’t until COVID in 2020 that I began to dedicate significant time and attention to my craft and fell in love with altoid miniatures, through the process of making dioramas for the friends and places I missed the most during that most isolating first year. Since that time, my interest in altoid miniatures has never waned and my interests have since grown to include pop-up art and other forms of papercraft as well.
I have been sharing my artworks online under the name somesmalltoken since early 2023, where I quickly found my niche and a beautiful online community of creators, and have also sought to show my art locally in various group exhibitions around the city. I continue to be a full time legal worker by day, but my art is my passion and all my spare time goes to this labor of love.
